Description
The "Arti Bag" by Folkdays was designed by the Berlin-based design studio Teuber Kohlhoff and is handwoven by the women of the village of Long Meraan on the island of Borneo. They belong to the Penan, the last nomadic tribe of Borneo. The tradition of basket weaving is still practiced here in the same way it has been passed down from mothers and, before them, from their mothers. The raw material is rattan, which can be found in large quantities in the surrounding jungles.
Each bag was hand-woven and therefore has an individual pattern and may vary slightly in size.

Folkdays is a contemporary fair-trade design company founded in Berlin in 2013 by Lisa Jaspers. They offer fairly produced jewelry, accessories, home goods, and clothing from independent artisans, family businesses, and local fair trade organizations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. With a focus on natural materials, all products are handmade and fairly traded. Each piece is unique, combining traditional techniques with contemporary design influences. Far removed from fleeting trends, the aim is to create timeless and distinctive products. In short: treasured pieces for eternity.
