Description
The "Melati" cushion cover was produced as part of the textile residencies in Southeast Asia and is thus a result of the cooperation between the Goethe-Institut Southeast Asia and Folkdays. The cushion cover was designed by Berlin-based textile designer Anne Hederer and crafted by the artisans of Batik Winotosastro in Indonesia. The highly elaborate batik technique has been perfected in Indonesia for centuries. A pattern is applied to the cotton with liquid wax so that the design remains light when the fabric is dyed, as the wax protects the fabric from the dye. Thus, white squares with a gradient stand out against a dark blue background, creating a beautiful contrast.

Folkdays is a contemporary fair-trade design company founded in Berlin in 2013 by Lisa Jaspers. They offer fairly produced jewelry, accessories, home goods, and clothing from independent artisans, family businesses, and local fair trade organizations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. With a focus on natural materials, all products are handmade and fairly traded. Each piece is unique, combining traditional techniques with contemporary design influences. Far removed from fleeting trends, the aim is to create timeless and distinctive products. In short: treasured pieces for eternity.
