Description
On the south coast of Sri Lanka, our soap dishes are handcrafted from Kithul palm wood. Kithul is a very hard wood with a beautiful grain. We exclusively use Kithul palms that are no longer cultivated. The palm has many uses; palm wine, known as toddy, is made from the inflorescence. A sweet powder is produced from the dried fruit pulp. The leaves and pulp are also a delicacy for the local elephants. The palm is thus used until the very end of its life. The wood, with its characteristic grain, is prized for producing high-quality, traditional handicrafts such as this jewelry box.
