Description

"But where are you actually from?" is a question that has accompanied me, and probably many others, throughout my life. This book is about what that feels like, and obviously also about spaghetti and tomato sauce. But also about pigeons and mosquitoes. About drawers and cupboards, and what pears and liverwurst have to do with it.

As the author's surname suggests, Lucia Zamolo has Italian roots. The fact that she constantly has to recount her father's biography whenever she meets new people is just one of many situations that people who don't have "typically German" or "typically Central European" names or appearances experience daily. But what does "typically German" or "typically European" even mean anymore? And do such things even exist in this day and age? This is a fascinating exploration of identity, homeland, and migration. It's not a lament about racism, but rather a personal account filled with insightful observations and thought-provoking ideas.
