Black Friday

Hooray for the circular economy!

“I absolutely need a new outfit for this occasion – I have nothing appropriate in my closet.” or “Ugh, my phone battery is really low, it’s about time for a new one.”
Who hasn't caught themselves having this exact thought? A product is bought, used, and then, once it has served its purpose, it's thrown away – potentially a very short life for a product. But what if the way we use consumer goods worked radically differently? Not like a line, but like a circle. The circular economy model starts precisely there – a regenerative system that uses raw material reserves sparingly and reduces waste production by continuously reusing the materials in the product cycle.

Rent, borrow, repair and refurbish instead of buying, buying, buying

The focus of the circular economy is to use a product or its components for as long as possible and to reuse them repeatedly. This reduces raw material consumption. At the same time, more people can use the same product (or product components) successively. Everyone benefits from that, right? There are now quite a few companies that are oriented towards the circular economy model and make their goods available in this way. You can take a look here !
Those who have scrolled far enough may have also seen our name in this list, as well as those of some of our cooperation partners.
We contribute to a circular economy by giving products that are no longer regularly sold a second chance. In this way, we offer you a platform to browse, where you can also do something good.

Circular Monday - why we celebrate it

This is today. The Monday before Black Friday is meant to draw attention to the circular economy model.

“A circular economy is based on the principles of designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems.”
(Ellen MacArthur Foundation)

The movement was founded in 2017 by Henning Gillberg. His startup, Repamera AB, focuses on repairing clothing (how circular!), so his motivation is quite clear. This Monday, companies with circular business models are spreading their message under #circularmonday on all major social media channels. And you can be part of the movement too! After all, we are all part of society and the economy, and every receipt casts a vote.

Our Circular Buddies

hejhej

In 2019, hejhej brought Circular Monday (back then it was still called “White Monday”) to Germany and is once again a fully committed partner in the counter-movement to Black Friday this year. The future is circular!
hejhej is a circular economy yoga startup. All hejhej products are closed-loop and designed to be 100% recyclable at the end of their product lifecycle. Through this sustainable circular economy approach, hejhej also makes a significant contribution to climate protection. All hejhej products can be returned to the ecological or technical cycle. Founded in Sweden in 2018 by Anna and Sophie, hejhej is now run by a team of five women who are determined to revolutionize the yoga industry from their base in Germany. Anna and Sophie started with the first closed-loop yoga mat, the hejhej-mat. Now, they offer yoga mats, bags, blocks, straps, and two cushions – everything needed for a beneficial yoga practice.
Hejhej's vision is to reduce the amount of plastic waste on our planet and promote conscious consumption through its sustainable yoga equipment . Learn more about this circular economy start-up athttps://www.hejhej-mats.com/start-up-kreislaufwirtschaft/
We are super proud to be able to work with such great cooperation partners! Unfortunately, we don't currently have any imperfect equipment from hejhej in the shop, but subscribe to our newsletter & stay up to date.

RECUP/ REBOWL

The reusable deposit system for revolutionaries!
Time for a coffee to go, but you forgot your own cup at home? No problem! With RECUP and REBOWL, you can enjoy drinks and food on the go without harming the environment. You can easily borrow the reusable cups and bowls for a €1 deposit for RECUP or a €5 deposit for REBOWL.
The reusable deposit system is already available at over 9,600 cafes, restaurants, bakeries, gas stations... and probably at your favorite cafe too! Once you've finished your drink or meal, you can simply return the reusable containers to one of over 9,600 partner locations across Germany and get your deposit back. This way, the containers circulate, and one RECUP replaces up to 1,000 disposable cups, and one REBOWL up to 500 disposable bowls. A win-win! For you and for the environment.

It's the circle of life

You're probably already familiar with the casual backpacks, hip bags, and other items from GOTBAG: The Mainz-based startup GOTBAG collects marine plastic from the Indian Ocean and uses it to create minimalist backpacks and bags. The team demonstrates that being economically viable and taking global responsibility are not mutually exclusive, and they raise awareness worldwide about the importance of using plastic more consciously. We love the idea and the design. It's nothing new that we always have imperfect items in our shop , but wouldn't today be the perfect occasion to rescue one of these pieces?

REUSE, REPAIR, RENT - are you in?

We hope this article has given you some food for thought for the week ahead: What does your consumption look like? How can you contribute to ensuring that the product life cycle becomes and remains circular?
